Keren Cytter (b. 1977, Israel) is internationally known for her text based video works. The characters in her non-linear stories seem to be aware of the role they are playing, but still remain unable to break out from the manuscript.They act without expression, they forget their lines, commenting on what will happen in the next scene. With a surreal undertone of human suffering and darkness it seems as if they can’t wake up from a bad dream, but are forced to repeat the same scene over and over again.

Galleri CC is very proud to screen three video works by the author and artist Keren Cytter on the Short Film Day. Cytter has exhibited at a number of biennals, including Manifesta (2008) and the Venice Biennale (2009). Other than a solo show at the Swedish Modern Museum of Art, her work has been shown at the Guggenheim Museum (NY), The Whitney Museum (NY), Hamburger Banhof (DE), Kunsthall Charlottenborg (solo, DK), Tate Modern Turbine Hall (solo, UK) and Stedelijk Museum (solo, NE) to name a few.

The evening will end with a performance by the Malmö-based performance group Fördärvet. Fördärvet works interdisciplinary with form and alternative ways to show theatre, dance, music, installation and film. The group was born out of a need of expressing the absurdities and grotesqueness of the irrational everyday life surrounding us. Through their need for collectivity, Fördärvet urges a space for uncensored expression and for joy and life. The group consists of Esmeralda Ahlqvist, Emma-Cecilia Ajanki, Julia Cechal, Eira Fråjdh, Fabian Nyman and Fredrika Vilselius. Their performance at Galleri CC is especially made for this evening and takes a starting-point in the artistic practice of Keren Cytter.

The evening is a collaboration with Folkets Bio Short Film Day.
