Susan Kooi (NL)
Grip
4 - 27/9 2020

Curator: Sofia Wickman (SE)

Galleri CC is proud to present the exhibition Grip, by Dutch artist Susan Kooi. In her artistic practice, she works with installations, combining tactile objects that she produces in ceramics, textile and plastics with their specific narratives in video, text and performance. The starting point of Kooi’s work is often finding local narratives connected to the location she works in. Incorporating them in the research and the artistic work, creating stories which are somewhere between actual happenings and fiction.

For this exhibition, at Galleri CC, Kooi has undertaken research about the mythological beast from Malmö’s coat of arms: the griffin. The mythological creature with a lion’s body and wings and the head of an eagle, which might be a protoceratops, and first appeared on a cosmetic palette in ancient Egypt and found its way to medieval Malmö.

This is Kooi’s very first solo exhibition in Sweden (or even in Scandinavia for that matter) and we are very excited to have her here. We, att Galleri CC, wish you a hearty welcome to the opening of Grip!
