We are delighted to present "Unsettled", an exhibition that delves into the intricate complexities of human life, identity, and the interplay between and positioning of internal and external factors. Through a selection of thought-provoking artworks - including Parachuter a VR piece by Nebras Hoveizavi, "Coil Binder", an installation by Simin Yaqubi and "Nobody" an experimental film by Vida Kashani and Johan Delétang, and the video “We, are also people” by Soodeh Karimi, curated by Amirali Ghasemi and Bahareh Mirhadinezhadfard - this exhibition aims to explore the nature of human existence and the transformative power of unsettlement.
The moving images selected in this constellation evoke a sense of intimacy, immersion and alienation within the space, the viewer and the bodily experiences of the artists.
"Unsettled'' invites visitors to embark on a journey through the labyrinthine web of human experiences; shaped as we are by people and environments around and inside us, instilling us with values, beliefs and social norms that inform decisions and shape our worldview, from the inside to the outside, to the in between.
Unsettled designating the restless and out of balance - the fleeing and fluctuating, the escape from and loss of spatial and cultural reference due to migration. Positioning alluding to the determined - things, bodies and thoughts put in place, wrapping and tying together in this or that fashion.
Through diverse artistic expressions, the exhibition unravels complexities and challenges faced by individuals as they navigate personal and cultural identities, often positioned in between.
The artworks reflect on the twists and turns that shape (and scrape) life and identity - encounters with materials, borders, rules and regulations, disease, love and hate - and the potential for growth, healing, resilience and transformation within these encounters.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Galleri CC, New Media Society - Tehran and Parking Video Library, supported by Malmö Stad and Kulturrådet.
