Therese Bülow (DK)
Grid for Smoothness
10/11 - 10/12  2023

Curator: Johan Lundin

Therese Bülow presents in the exhibition Grid for Smoothness a series of sculptures that revolve around ideas of the housework and the surfaces that serve as a bridge between the human and the external world. The living room, bedroom, and utility room act as abstract settings for her works. The exhibition delves deeper into Bülow’s fascination with how objects and materials influence the human domain considering tools, objects and artifacts as tangible expressions of ideas and potential avenues for new thinking.

Where does the process of design conclude? Hands are inherently adept at both holding and crafting tools, yet the hand itself is a flawlessly designed instrument for precisely grasping and shaping new tools. It functions as an interface that connects with the environment and the materials, having been shaped and grasped by the elements countless times before. It is at the boundary between the human and the designed object that ambiguous lines emerge and where the boundary itself becomes disrupted.

Therese Bülow (DK) is an artist who lives and works between Copenhagen and Malmö. Bülow graduated with an MFA from Malmö Art Academy in 2022, in Malmö, SE. Her work has been exhibited at Den Frie Udstillingbygning (Copenhagen, DK), Møntmestergården, Den Gamle By (Århus, DK), IAC (Malmö, SE), Matteo Cantarella (Copenhagen, DK), and Uppsala Konstmuseum (Uppsala, SE) among others.
