Genom en längre process har det privata näringslivet nästan fullständigt tagit kontroll över vilka bilder och visuella uttryck som får tillgång till stadsrummet. Det hela har blivit en fråga om vem som betalar mest.

Kan man istället tänka sig att detta vore styrt av nyttjanderätten? Att man till exempel erbjöd utvalda ytor i stadsrummet för att konstnärer och andra individer som önskade det, kunde uttrycka sig obehindrat och att man prioriterade dessa framför kommersiella aktörer. Medborgare skulle bli stärkta av deras deltagande i samhället. Eller är det bara en banal utopi?

Gard Andreas Frantzsen arbetar med konstnärliga projekt i stadsrummet och dokumentationen av det. Verken i utställningen kan ses som ett inspel till en diskussion om vem vi önskar oss att staden ska vara för, och hur vi vill att den ska se ut. För utställningen på Galleri CC har han gjort ett nytt verk som han önskar att erbjuda Malmö och dess invånare.

Gard Andreas Frantzsen (f. 1976) är en konstnär och curator baserad i Bergen. Frantzsen har en MA i fri konst från Konst och Designhögskolan i Bergen och en BA Honours i fotografi från University of Westminster, School of Media, Arts & Design. Hans senaste projekt och utställningar inkluderar: Galeria Rajatila, Tampere (curator); WIZARD, Oslo (grupp); CirkulationsCentralen, Malmö (curator); Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo (assisterande curator); Norsk design- og arkitektursenter (DOGA), Oslo (grupp); Podium, Oslo (duo med Øivin Horvei), Preus Museum (grupp); Galleri Brandstrup, Oslo (grupp).

MALMÖ, MAY I OFFER YOU SOMETHING?
Through a long and steady process private companies have almost entirely taken control over the images and visual expressions that appear in urban public spaces. Today it comes down to who pays the most.

Is it possible to imagine that this could be overthrown by a call from citizens so that they can use public space for more artistic expressions? An example of this could be that artists and other citizens were offered designated surfaces in urban public spaces where they could express themselves freely, and that individuals were given priority over commercial businesses. Citizens would be empowered by their user participation in society. Or is this just a banal utopia?

Gard Andreas Frantzsen works with artistic projects in public urban spaces, and the works in the exhibition can be seen as encouraging more reflections on whom we want the city to be for and how we want it to appear. Frantzsen has created a new work especially for the exhibition that he wants to offer Malmö and visitors of the exhibition, inviting them to contribute to his project.

Gard Andreas Frantzsen (b. 1976) is an artist and curator based in Bergen. Frantzsen is a graduate from the MA programme in Fine Art at Bergen Academy of Art and Design. He also holds a BA Honours in Photography from University of Westminster, School of Media, Arts & Design.
