När jag möter Marie Bonfils skulpturer och installationer slås jag av dess kroppsliga närvaro. De är ofta lika mycket några man möter kropp till kropp som några man betraktar. Det är en stor del av Bonfils arbete, i hur form kan anta mänskliga uttryck men också få en mänsklig närvaro. Hand i hand går hennes intresse för hur människor formas.
Bonfils arbetar i flera olika material, mjuka som hårda, med en känsla för taktiliteten i verken. Där finns en blandning mellan det grovhuggna och aviga som delar rum med det precisa och specifika. Hon smälter samman flera motsägelser såsom när hon intresserar sig för de ideala formerna i arkitekturen såsom den bärande bågen kombineras den med en mänskligt felbara och sköra.
I mötet med Bonfils skulpturer tänker jag på hur det är som att möta objekt med egna personliga erfarenheter men de pratar också om en större berättelse, om erfarenheterna om att ha en könad kropp och förhålla sig till det. De talar både om att vara en människa och en kvinna i samhället och tilldelas ideal att försöka leva upp till och ibland misslyckas.
Med en underliggande humor bjuder hon in betraktaren och låta hen dela en bräcklig bild- och formvärld av bräckliga monument av den sköra komplexiteten att leva.
I kakelrummet visas The many faces of Eve som är en perfomativ installation lera som kommer förändras och arbetas med under utställningens gång.

Upon encountering Marie Bonfils’s sculptures and installations, I am struck by their physical presence. The experience is as much a physical one as one of observation. This is a large part of Bonfils’s body of work, whose shapes take on a human form, but also one of a human presence. It goes hand in hand with her interest in how humans are formed.
Bonfils uses different materials in her works, both soft and hard, which evoke a sense of tactility. The works blend the rough-hewn and awkward with the precise and specific. She further melds contradictions such as her interest in the ideal forms in architecture like the load-bearing arch combined with human fallibility and fragility.
In the presence of Bonfils’s sculptures I get the feeling of meeting objects with their own experience which also tell bigger stories, of the experience of having a gendered body and having to relate to that. They speak simultaneously of being a human and a woman, in society, and of living up the assigned ideal while failing at it on occasion.
With underlying humour she invites the viewer to enter as she shares her fragile world of images and forms made up of fragile monuments to the awkward complexity of living.
On display in the tile room is The many faces of Eve, which is a performative installation of clay. It will be changing and progressing during the exhibition period.
